Professional hockey player Alex Ovechkin and his wife, model Anastasia Shubskaya, have been married since 2016.

After they started FaceTiming and met in person for dinner from time to time, the athlete then invited her to come to Washington.

“I came and after this, I stayed till now," Nastya toldThe Washington Postin 2020. The couple later wed in 2016 and have since welcomed two sons.

Before marrying Alex, Anastasia worked as a model. Most of her work has been done in her home country of Russia.

Her Instagram boasts over half a million followers and showcases most of her portfolio.

Alex proposed to her while she was in the shower

In an interview withThe Washington Post,the model shared the unconventional story of how her husband popped the question. One day, while she was lathering her hair with shampoo, Alex busted into the bathroom and got down on one knee.

“I was like, ‘What! Do you understand I am just …’ and he didn’t stop, so I was like, ‘Oh, my gosh’ and I got a towel, and I opened the door, and he is on one knee with the flowers and with the ring,” Anastasia said.

“At first when I opened the door I thought I would kill him. Can you imagine you were in the shower and then you need to get out … Oh my God. Why you couldn’t just wait? He said: ‘No, no, no. I wanted to right now,’ ” she continued.

She and Alex had an intimate wedding in 2016

Despite the couple’s public nature, their wedding was very private. According toThe Washington Post,the pair signed a marriage certificate in Russia and held a much more lavish celebration the following year.

The wedding celebration was held at the Barikvah Concert Hall in Moscow. Family friend Yana Rudkovskayaposted a videoon Instagram of the professional athlete singing a rendition of Boney M’s “Rasputin" during the wedding.

They share two sons

The couple share two sons together: Sergei and Ilya.

“I was kind of waiting for that moment when my kid is going to be around with me in the locker room,” Alex toldThe Washington Post.“The culture that we have here, it is something special, and all the guys love the kids, and it is going to be fun for him as well.”

She hates when Alex plays Candy Crush

In a 2020 interview withMen’s Journal,the Stanley Cup winner revealed his wife’s biggest pet peeve in their relationship. When asked what drives his wife nuts, Alex had an answer at the ready.

”When I go to sleep, I always, like, try to play [on the] phone, I think that’s what she hates most … Clash of Clans, Candy Crush, all those games,” he admitted. “I’m not addicted, I just like the video games.”

The national champion never wastes an opportunity to praise his wife.

“Right now all I think about is family. … She is my one, and she takes care of me, takes care of my son and gives me everything I need,” Alex toldThe Washington Post. “I think I can’t find a better one. If I had a chance, I would never change it.”
