Price emerged victorious on Sunday in the final women’s middleweight bout. The Welsh athlete knocked Li Qian of China onto the silver medal step on the podium over the weekend after besting Nouchka Fontijn on Friday and leaving the Dutch boxer with the bronze.
After Sunday as the Olympics came to a close, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge took their officialInstagramto congratulate Britain’s athletes.
Their post featured a carousel of photos of British Olympians, including diver (and notedknitting enthusiast) Tom Daley and his partner Matt Lee, who won the gold medal in men’s synchronized 10 meter platform. Overall, Great Britain came fourth in the Olympic medal table, winning 65 medals total, including 22 golds, 21 silver and 22 bronze.

On July 20, the Duke of Cambridge sat down with Price at his Kensington Palace home before she headed to compete for her country.
“I’ve got a problem,” William, 39, joked in a video posted to theYouTube pagehe shares with wife,Kate Middleton. “I’m not even good at one sport. You’re really good at, like, three sports.”
During their meeting in July, Price told the prince about growing up playing soccer and how she transitioned to boxing, including the challenging time spending 18 months out of the ring due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The athlete also talked about how she worked as a taxi driver on weekends, “picking up all the drunks on a Friday and Saturday night.”
“But they didn’t mess with you, Lauren, did they?” William said with a smile.

Prince William, whose grandfatherPrince Philipdiedin April, connected with the athlete over the recent loss of her own grandfather, whom she described as a “father figure.”
The royal dad also surprised the Olympian with a boxing-themed cake to celebrate both her 27th birthday and wish her luck in Tokyo.

The day before the prince met Price,Princess Annesent a message to all the athletes from Great Britain competing at the Olympics this summer. The Queen’s only daughter — an accomplished equestrian who became the first-ever member of the British royal family to compete in the Olympics in 1976 — said that although she was sad to not attend in person, “I and the whole nation will be cheering for you and proudly supporting you from home.”
Acknowledging the restrictions in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic, she continued, “This is your Olympics. It will be different, but not in its importance to you. Savor it, and above all, enjoy it.”
