In anew commercialpromotingDespicable Me 4, which PEOPLE can exclusively reveal before it airs duringSuper Bowl LVIIIon Sunday evening, the lovable characters from the Illumination and Universal Pictures franchise craft silly images using AI.
“With artificial intelligence, the future is in good hands,” the voiceover concludes, before two Minions characters are seen cheering over their AI photographs in a large office-like space filled with other Minions doing the same.
The clip then ends with a callout announcing that atrailer forDespicable Me 4, which is due to hit theaters later this year, is now available to watch.

Despicable Me 4is the latest entry in the long-runningDespicable MeandMinionsanimated comedy franchise. It will serve as the sequel to 2017’sDespicable Me 3.
The forthcoming features Gru as he, his wife Lucy (Kristen Wiig) and their adoptive daughters Margo (Miranda Cosgrove), Edith (Dana Gaier) and Agnes (Madison Polan) “welcome a new member to the Gru family, Gru Jr., who is intent on tormenting his dad,” according to an official synopsis.
“Gru faces a new nemesis in Maxime Le Mal (Ferrell) and his femme fatale girlfriend Valentina (Sofia Vergara), and the family is forced to go on the run,” the synopsis continues.
Aside from Ferrell and Vergara, new additions toDespicable Me 4’s voice cast also includeJoey King,Stephen ColbertandSaturday Night Live’sChloe Fineman.
The White LotuscreatorMike Whiteco-wroteDespicable Me 4’s screenplay with Ken Daurio, who has written each of the series' four movies.
The new entry comes roughly two years afterMinions: Rise of Gru, a spinoff of the mainDespicable Meseries, made $369 million at thedomestic box officeand was the sixth-highest-grossing movie of 2022.

Despicable Me 4is in theaters on July 3.
