Lena Dunhamcontinues to be very open abouther health journeyon social media. And her latest post proves just that. The star is honoring her battle with endometriosis with a new tattoo.
Dunham, 32, revealed her new ink on Instagram: the word “sick” written in a lasso typeface across the back of her neck.
“sometimes the thing you’re most scared of being called is the best thing you can call yourself. thank you@havenstudiobkfor labeling me… and to my sisters in this dizzying but starry slog- i am lasso’d to you!” Dunham captioned the Instagram photo showing off her new tat.
Dunham first opened up about her endometriosis diagnosis in 2015 and hassince undergone five surgeries. In 2018 the star ended uphaving her uterus and cervix removedto relieve pain stemming from endometriosis.
“What a difference a year makes,” Dunham shared on Instagram in November. “First photo was indeed a year ago today, on the first night after my hysterectomy for severe endometriosis. I was smiling but my eyes say it all: full of anxiety and grief that I couldn’t locate through the layers of pain meds and benzos.”
“Severe undiagnosed PTSD, feelings that my worth and purpose were being taken from me, angry and self-pitying with no sense of how I’d emerge,” she continued. “Plus, my hair had fallen out in odd clumps and I’d taken it upon myself to dye what remained electric blue cuz if you’re gonna spiral why not SPIRAL.”
She also shehad her left ovary removedin October 2018 to address remaining pain.

“The second pic was taken tonight, happy joyous and (substance) free,” Dunham added in the Instagram post. In October, Dunham revealed onDax Shepard‘s podcastArmchair Expertthat shewas six months soberafter kicking her use of Klonopin, which she took for anxiety.
