Leto began climbing after he made a five-part climbing docuseries,Great Wide Open, in 2016, according toMen’s Health. One reason why the actor madeGreat Wide Openwas because he wanted to make time to learn to climb, the outlet reported.
Since first taking up the sport, Leto has climbed Joshua Tree, Yosemite and as far as Sardinia, often posting photos from his adventures on his Instagram page.
“I’d put it somewhere between amateur bowling and . . . Usain Bolt,” Leto toldMen’s Healthof his take on the challenge of climbing
“It’s hard to explain because you’re up there having a good time, but it’s full on for a couple of hours. You’re singing and running around, you have so much adrenaline, and you’re performing at your limit,” he explained. “Your heart is pounding outta your chest, you’re dripping sweat, and you’re exhilarated, but you’re working your body in a really intense way.”
