I just had some hand - on time withSamsung ’s BD - UP5000 Duo HD , their first hybrid Blu - light beam andHD DVDdisc thespian . It ’s so honorable , it might as well be called BD - UP - Yours - Format - War . ( Get it ? Yeah , sorry , that was n’t too comic . ) It ’s not the industry ’s first hybrid disc player — theLG BH100has that honor . But it is the first to really be fully compatible with both , and therefore the one that could terminate the HD Disc beef combat .

Unlike the LG , the BD - UP5000 is fullyHD DVDcompliant , capable to play back all the synergistic menus and feature article that are the authentication of the format . I test it with The Fast and the Furious : Tokyo Drift and thing came out flawless . Even though this was a paradigm driveway . Also , the drive has local reposition and Ethernet , which are part of the HD videodisk specification .

The UP5000 also features an HQV Reon processor , the same television scaler and deinterlacer that made the current gen Toshiba HD DVD player ’s images so well .
Blu - light beam discs played very well , and I bid I ’d brought along the Pirates of the Caribbean : Dead Man ’s Chest to see if theBlu - ray Java problemspersisted . But I doubt that is an number , given the fact that the bug is well known and was patched across the board last calendar month .
