“ I remember very clear when I was working with Scott [ Cooper , theatre director ] , [ animal concept designer ] Guy Davis and later on with everyone at Legacy , create the animate being , I said ‘ We have to commend we ’re not make a monstrosity , we ’re make a God , ’ ” del Toro said . “ So the design require to have elements that are wholly unnatural . That are almost surreal or nonfigurative . ”
Why is that ? Well , it ’s because the creature in Antlers is based in modern mythology . It ’s based on the wendigo , a dominant myth in Native American civilisation . And , would n’t you know it , the Comic - Con control board revealed more information on that too , in the frame of this featurette .
