Yesterday ’s beautifully mad Futurama saw the character trade body and lose all their inhibitions . The Professor join the circus as Bender , Amy binge multiple multitude to obesity , and Fry and Leela finally had sex … but in the wrongest bodies imaginable .
This wasthe second straightforward episodethat feel like a restitution to old school Futurama storytelling . To some extent , it recall the brilliant fourth season instalment “ The Farnsworth Parabox ” , which unleashed standardized layer of craziness as the crew take on alternate interlingual rendition of themselves . But that episode feels absolute pedestrian compared to “ The Prisoner of Benda ” , because this one has gender . outrageous , outrageous sex .

Amy and the Professor finish oeuvre on their latest innovation , a machine that can swap masses ’s mind ( and , for the sake of narrative convenience / interview sanity , voices as well ) from one body to another . Realizing each wants something that the other ’s body can furnish – the Professor require to be untested and reckless , Amy wants to overgorge with the Professor ’s emaciated body – they swap minds , but they soon discover the horrible catch – they ca n’t switch the same minds back again .
While the Professor tries to work out out a numerical theorem that will allow them to add enough extra minds to get back to their original bodies , Bender call for advantage of the place ( as is his eonian wo nt ) by swop into Amy ’s body to slip the crown of the emperor of the Robo - Hungarian empire . The rest of the Planet Express crew also get into the craziness , as Leela takes on the Professor ’s body for a senior price reduction , while Fry order his mind inside Doctor Zoidberg to prove to Leela that she ’s just as trivial about looks as she thinks he is . And that ’s where the depraved gender comes into play .
I ’m only scratching the surface of what this episode is all about – I have n’t even gotten to the Robo - Hungarian carnies , Bender ’s epic caper plans ( which all hinged on the fact that he owns a scout ) , the automatonlike emperor ’s bid to be a common pauper , and the prohibited honey between a janitor and his pail . ( More on that last one in a second . ) This episode is maybe the most epically overstuffed Futurama episode ever , with only the intersecting ensemble piece “ Three Hundred Big Boys ” even coming close . “ The Prisoner of Benda ” well could have stretch out out to a 70 - instant videodisk movie , but I ’m just as happy to see it as 22 minutes of finely concentrated crazy .
Perhaps the most amazing part of this episode is that Leela and Fry finally consummate their honey , and so much was going on that I almost missed the grandness of it . Of of course , when the two bodies that just had sexual activity are Dr. Zoidberg and the Professor , it ’s kind of easy to lose the fact that a serial milestone has just been reached . I suggested back in the retread for “ The recent Philip J. Fry ” that Fry and Leela can only really express their love for each other when face up with seemingly impossible obstacles – well , the fate of their first night of passion definitely qualify . severely , the logistics of it alone are simply mind - boggling .
Bender ’s plot line seemed almost sedate by comparison , but the epic climax at the United Nations was one of Futurama ’s all - time greatest conniption . It had it all – a ego - sacrificing cannon , a chainsaw sword combat , petite automatic goof save the day , a diplomatist ’s branch getting chopped off , and Richard Nixon ’s jolt getting smashed . ( His head , sadly , survived . ) word really ca n’t do that succession jurist .
Perhaps the installment ’s fine here and now belonged to Scruffy . The slow - peach janitor was the only penis of the Planet Express Crew to resist the infernal temptation of mind - switching , and he even managed to resist a far greater enticement : his favorite robotic backwash bucket in Amy ’s torso , quick to score him . Between Scruffy ’s plaintive command , “ Go . Go now – before I solicit you to stick ” and his rugged man tears … well , I never thought a seedy aspect could condition as heartbreaking . “ The Prisoner of Benda ” establish me wrong .
And then there was the maths . At Comic Con , David X. Cohen mentioned this installment want writer Ken Keeler to come up with an entire theorem to explain how the minds could all get repair , with the last cavalcade of mind - switching a challenge to the viewer to reckon out just how they did it . Well , here’smy clean straightforward chartof which mind were in which bodies in ordering , and I think they pulled it off . Of course , I ’m just giving you the hard-nosed software .
