According to Mozilla , the feature will go live on March 19 , onceFirefox 66 launcheson both desktop and Android . With the update , Firefox will block any audible autoplay sound recording or video on a fresh opened site . Muted autoplay will still be allowed , and if you actually want autoplay to oeuvre — WHY????—you could tap an icon that will look in the URL streak . you may also keep autoplay ( seriously though , why ? ? ) if you ’ve previously granted a camera or mike permission on that site , like for internet browser - based video conferencing . These features are already available on other browsers , likeGoogle Chrome , Safari , andMicrosoft Edge . It ’s curious that it ’s taken Mozilla this long , but hey — well late than never .
