Danelo Cavalcante, fugitive changes appearance after escape from prison

Former fugitiveDanelo Cavalcanteconsidered surrendering to authorities on at least one occasion upon feeling pressure from the heavy law enforcement presence near where he was hiding, according toCNN.

Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal Rob Clark spoke to CNN about the escapee’s arrest and shared Cavalcante’s accounts of how he survived13 days on the runsince he fled the Chester County Prison in Chester County, Penn., on Aug 31.

“He said it was very difficult living out there, but it wasn’t difficult because of the environment or the terrain. It was difficult because the law enforcement presence was increasing every day,” Clark told CNN in an interview about information that Cavalcante shared with investigators following hisdramatic captureon Wednesday.

Clark said Cavalcante heard the announcements and thought, “‘Wow, they have a Brazilian working for them now."

He also told investigators that he had survived eating stolen watermelons, drinking creek water andhiding his wasteto avoid detection, according to NewsNation’s previous interview with Clark hours after the arrest.

On Wednesday, ClarktoldNewsNation’s Chris Cuomo that Cavalcante said that on three occasions, search party members were only “seven to eight yards” from him, and he narrowly escaped.

In the interview, Clark also said that Cavalcante was “brutally honest” during the interrogation, which took place with the help of a Brazilian interpreter.

Cavalcante is now facing felony escape charges,ABC27,CNNand thePhiladelphia Inquirerreport.
