Catching a hummer as it flies through the airis a tired old conjuration — but can it actually be done in real life ? Surprisingly , yes — at least , theoretically .
Casting a little light on the cathartic of the problem , Randall Munroe sketches out atechnique on What If?that should , in hypothesis , allow you to catch a hummer . He explains :
A slug dismiss direct up would eventually reach a maximal top . It probably would n’t break off completely ; more potential , it would be drifting sideways at a couple meters per second . At that focal ratio , as long as you were in the right place at the correct time , you could snatch it out of the air .

He evoke — well , actually he hint against , but at least point out that it would exercise — using a hot atmosphere balloon to gain enough elevation without disrupt the air through which the bullet would travel . ALT would , of course , vary as a function of the shooter and bullet , but an AK-47 would require you to be 1.3 miles up in the air .
Interestingly , while the bullet would turn a loss all it ’s vertical impulse , the rotational momentum supplied by the whorl of the gun ’s barrel would signify that it was still spinning when you caught it . Not that should adjudicate , obviously . [ What If ? ]
