If you ’ve ever travel to New York City ’s American Museum of Natural History , you ’ve seen this Apatosaurus . But did you know it took these dudes in suits ( well one suit and three fantastic old - timey outfits)six years to mount the giant ?
The project started in 1898 , and by the sentence it was completed in 1905 , they had re - christened what was first know as a Brontosaurus as an Apatosaurus . Back then there was no banner for setting up thumping dinosaur carcass , so this herbivore was installed using recycled pipe and plumbing repair . Turns out the method worked , because despite revisions to other parts of the carcase , the trunk of this sauropod dinosaur is still supported using the same rig . [ AMNH ]
